In 2007 the election of the teacher of the year award ceremony aired on tv for the first time. It became an annual event with political guests and performances of famous Dutch people.

Article

The Netherlands has a beautiful tradition of electing the teacher of the year. Primary and secondary school pupils may nominate their teachers for this title. The winners may represent their educational system on all sorts of occasions for a year. Starting in 2007, the government awarded the election a subsidy to cast the award ceremony in the form of a tv programme.

The audience for this programme naturally consisted of the nominee's pupils and fellow teachers. This formed a nice contrast with the prominent political guests and well-known Dutch people. That particular contrast was represented in the design by incorporating more modest and raw materials with elegant finishes in sophisticated places.
